about

Presented by Art Contemporary Club

Alex McLeod is a new media visual artist from Toronto. McLeod’s images recall the wide-open vistas of romantic landscape painting and strange otherworldly dystopias. In light of concerns surrounding rising populations, urban over-development, and climate change, McLeod’s simulations could be considered a cautionary tale about ecological responsibility, empathy, and connectivity. He is represented by Division Gallery in Toronto and Montreal.

In extrusions_4k (2018) Kaleidoscope (2017) and CONVERGENT EVOLUTION (2016), singular shapes move to the fluctuating rhythm of imagined universes. These three short looping 3D animations feature autonomous systems that defy any physics laws. Using seductive polished surfaces and floating geometric abstractions rendered in candy-coloured palettes, Alex McLeod creates scenes from other worlds, in which the real and the virtual, the organic and the manufactured are hybridized.
